There is no simple way of getting Word to display vertically aligned text, but there is a sneaky way.

Vertical Text In A Text Box

First of all, you’ll need your text in a text box. To insert a text box in your document, go to the Insert tab and click Text Box (in the Text group). When the Text Box gallery opens, choose the text box style you want. Most people will find that the Simple Text Box (the first option) suffices but go ahead and knock yourself out.

When the text box has been inserted in the document, you can start typing in it.

Drawing Tools Tab

As the image above shows, when the text box is selected, the Drawing Tools tab is displayed in the ribbon. This is just what we need: go to the Format tab and click Text Direction (in the Text group). Choose the direction that suits you.

Text Direction In Word

For vertical text you will need either the Rotate all text 90 degrees or the Rotate all text 270 degrees option. One has the text direction facing downwards and the other upwards.

Now this is really weird: when you place the cursor in your vertical text, it changes to a horizontal cursor. And when you type, the text continues in your new chosen direction. How strange.

Vertical Text In A Table Cell

Another way to get vertical text is to type it into a table cell. While the table is selected (simply having the cursor in a table cell selects the table), you’ll see the Table Tools tab displayed in the ribbon. Go to the Layout tab within. In the Alignment group, you should see the Text Direction command. If you click repeatedly on that button, the orientation of the text in the selected cell will cycle through horizontal – 90 degrees – 270 degrees.

Insert Page Numbers In Microsoft Word 2002 http://www.mswordhelp.com/insert-page-numbers-in-microsoft-word-2002/ http://www.mswordhelp.com/insert-page-numbers-in-microsoft-word-2002/#comments Tue, 26 Apr 2011 07:21:21 +0000 admin http://www.mswordhelp.com/?p=12 Word 2002 Task

Now that we have finished creating our document in Microsoft Word 2002, we need to add page numbers throughout. How can we achieve this?

We could type in the page number manually on each page, but this would be a laborious task that is prone to error, and you would also have to mess around getting the formatting right on every page. This is not a good idea. However, to get page numbers to appear automatically on each page of our document we can insert them either in header or footer. If we do this, then Word will calculate the page numbers for each and every page.

Page Numbering In Word 2002

To add page numbers to a ord 2002 document, do the following:

  • First of all, you should decide where on the page you want to insert your page numbering. Do you want it to appear at the top of the page in the header, or at the bottom in the footer. Also, where in the header or footer?
  • Usual practice is to display them at the bottom of the document in the footer.
  • To open the footer: from the upper toolbar menu select: View – Header and Footer
  • Word might display the header initially, so switch to footer by using the Switch Between Header and Footer icon.
  • Now we have the footer displayed.
  • To insert page numbers, on the same toolbar find the Insert Page Number icon.
  • Alternatively you can use the keyboard shortcut by pressing ALT + SHIFT + P
  • Click the icon or use the shortcut and the page number will be inserted.

Now the page numbering is automatic so you do not need to insert it on every page. Just type your text and page numbers will appear automatically in the right manner. Page number can be edited like any other text.
